On June 3rd, 2025, the PASSIONATE Project hosted the Workshop on Physics-based AI for Wireless Communications during the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025 in Poznań, Poland.
Organized by Máximo Morales Céspedes (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), the workshop was closely aligned with the PASSIONATE project’s mission of advancing physics-based AI/ML solutions for next-generation wireless networks across PHY, MAC, and RRM layers.
The workshop featured two outstanding keynote talks:
– Nurul Huda Mahmood (University of Oulu): Towards Resilient Wireless Industrial Communication Networks.
– Szymon Szott (AGH University of Krakow): An AI/ML-defined Radio Interface for Wi-Fi: Benefits and Challenges.
The program included captivating technical presentations:
– Markku Juntti & Nhan Nguyen (University of Oulu): Data and model-driven machine learning for wireless communications and sensing.
– Lianet Méndez-Monsanto Suárez & Ana García Armada (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid): Deep-learning-aided ISAC with Superimposed Training in OFDM. (Lianet Méndez-Monsanto Suárez, Kun Chen-Hu, María Julia Fernández-Getino García, Ana García Armada)
– Iñigo Bilbao & Eneko Iradier (University of the Basque Country – UPV/EHU): Advancing Wireless PHY Layer with Model-Based AI (Iñigo Bilbao, Eneko Iradier, Alejandro Gonzalez, Jon Montalban, Iñaki Eizmendi, Pablo Angueira).
– Máximo Morales Céspedes (UC3M): AI-based blockage prediction for optical wireless communications based on realistic datasets (Máximo Morales Céspedes, Alejandro López Barrios, Juan Carlos Torres Zafra)
The workshop led to vibrant discussions on integrating domain knowledge into AI, complexity and interpretability, and the practical steps needed to bring physics-based AI into real-world wireless systems.
