Last week, PASSIONATE project successfully held its last face-to-face meeting during EuCNC 2026, which took place in Málaga, Spain, from 2-5 June 2026.
The meeting brought together project partners for an important and productive exchange on the final stages of the project. Partners reviewed the current project status, discussed reporting and pending activities, and aligned on the remaining steps towards the successful completion of the project.
This last face-to-face meeting was also a valuable opportunity to reflect on the excellent work carried out throughout the project. We would like to warmly thank all PASSIONATE partners for their commitment, collaboration, and outstanding contributions. Their dedication has been essential to achieving the project objectives and to advancing research on physics-based machine learning, AI, and future wireless communication systems.
During EuCNC 2026, PASSIONATE also co-sponsored two conference activities, both of which were highly successful and attracted many attendees.
The workshop “International Cooperation for AI-Native RAN for 6G”, co-sponsored together with 6G-ARROW, 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY, and 6G-LEADER, provided a dynamic forum for discussing AI-native radio access networks and the role of artificial intelligence in the operation of future 6G systems. The workshop featured interesting presentations and discussions on AI challenges and international cooperation across Europe, United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Brazil, and Africa, where our Project coordinator Ana García Armada moderated the panel “Cross-regional research and experimentation on AI in 6G”.
PASSIONATE also co-sponsored the special session “Redefining Connectivity: Multidisciplinary Approaches to 6G through Ultra-Massive MIMO and Intelligent Sensing”, together with MiFuture, ISAC-NEWTON, and ENCORE6G. The session started with the panel “Redefining Connectivity: Multidisciplinary Approaches to 6G through Ultra-Massive MIMO and Intelligent Sensing” with the participation of our project partners Markku Juntti (University of Oulu, Finland) and Ana García Armada (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain). Afterwards, Eneko Iradier (University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Bilbao, Spain) presented his work on “AI-Enhanced Self-Interference Cancellation for Future In-Band Full-Duplex Systems”, and Paweł Hatka (Poznan University of Technology, Poznan, Poland) presenting “Energy-Aware CMAB for Beam Management”. The session gathered many participants and fostered engaging discussions.
Both activities gave PASSIONATE partners the opportunity to present their work, exchange ideas with the wider 6G research community, and contribute to discussions on the future of intelligent, reliable, sustainable, and AI-enabled communication networks.
As PASSIONATE approaches its final phase, the project looks forward to continuing communication and dissemination activities, sharing its results with the research community, and contributing to future developments in AI, machine learning, and next-generation wireless networks.
